大和薬品株式会社の米国現地法人DHD・USAは、全米最大規模の機能性食品原料展示会Supply Side West 2014に出展しました（2014年10月6日～10日）。
DHD・USAは精製ナットウ菌培養物（NKCP）などの機能性食品原料を展示し、多くの来場者に製品の説明を行いました。例年と異なり、ラスベガスのマンダレイベイにて開催された同展示会は、機能性食品の他に食品、化粧品、流通などの関連企業も出展し、1,700以上の出展ブースを数えました。
大和薬品株式会社では、今後とも世界の市場に向けた展開を強化していく方針です。
気になるからだ 爪水虫はじっくり治療
水虫というと、「足の指の間」や「足の裏」を思い浮かべますが、爪にもできるのです。特に、足の水虫を長い間放置しておくと、爪の内部まで菌（白癬菌＝はくせんきん）が入り込み、「爪水虫」となる可能性があります。皮膚科の調査によると、足の水虫がある人の半数が爪水虫も持っていました。
爪水虫になる場所で多いのは、足の親指です。爪は白色あるいは黄白色に濁り、もろくなり、軽く削っただけで粉となって落ちていきます。それ以外の症状は乏しいことが多いのですが、歩くのが困難になったり、痛みを感じたりすることもあります。
足の水虫や爪水虫は、治療しない場合、そこで「菌を飼っている」状態となります。患者が使ったバスマットやスリッパなどに菌が移り、家族の足に付着します。家族の足が濡れていて、よく乾かさずに靴下をはくとますます感染しやすくなります。足の水虫は市販の薬で治療することができますが、それらは爪の内部には浸透しにくいので、医療機関での治療が必要となります。
医療機関では、飲み薬を使用するか、爪に浸透しやすい専用の液剤を使用します。
どちらにしても、爪が伸びるのは1日0.1mmと言われており、健康な爪に完全に生えかわるには月単位の時間がかかります。根気よく治療を続けることが大切です。

When we think of athlete's foot, we imagine the "space between the toes" or the "soles of the feet," but it can also occur under nails. In particular, if athlete's foot is left untreated for a long time, bacteria (dermatophyte = rhinoceros) can penetrate deep inside the nails and develop into "nail athlete's foot." According to a dermatological survey, half of people with athlete's foot also have nail fungus.
The most common spot for nail athlete's foot is the big toe. The nails become cloudy and fragile to white or yellowish-white, and even a light shave turns them into powder and falls off. Other symptoms are often scarce, but you may find walking difficult or painful.
If foot athlete's foot and nail athlete's foot are left untreated, they become in a state where bacteria are being 'harbored.' Bacteria can transfer to bath mats or slippers used by patients and adhere to family members' feet. If family members' feet are wet and socks are worn without proper drying, infection becomes even more susceptible. Athlete's foot can be treated with over-the-counter medication, but since they do not easily penetrate the nails, treatment at a medical facility is necessary.
Medical institutions use oral medications or specialized liquids that easily penetrate the nails.
In any case, it is said that the nail grows about 0.1mm per day, and it takes months for the nail to fully regrow into a healthy one. It is important to patiently continue treatment.
