2009年健康食品成分、原料及OEM展览会（由《健康商业杂志》主办）于东京国际论坛举行，吸引了60多家材料制造商和合同制造企业参与。材料、原材料和技术进行了展示和推广。本财年，公司还展出了三款产品：稻麸阿拉伯氧基兰“生物布兰”、纳托罗酮酶“NKCP”以及乳酸菌稻米介质产品“米克菲兰”。

こんにちは、メールマガジン担当の石原です。
8月2日、バイオブラン研究会 2009年国際大会が大盛況のうちに幕を閉じました。最新の研究報告を聴講し、非常に勉強になりました。
また、一つのイベントを皆で作り上げていくことの難しさ、楽しさを改めて痛感致しました。
今回のメールマガジンでは当社が出展した2つの展示会についてご報告させて頂いております。また川上先生に「夏の冷え性」について執筆していただきました。

◎2009年5月に、東京で相次いで開催された二つの展示会に、当社は主力製品を出展
5月19日（火）・20日（水）、東京国際フォーラムで開催された健食原料・素材・OEM展 2009（主催：ヘルスビジネスマガジン社）には、60を超える素材メーカーや受託製造企業が参加。素材や原料、技術などを展示、アピールしました。当社では、今年度も、米ぬかアラビノキシラン「バイオブラン」をはじめ、ナットウプロテアーゼ「NKCP」、乳酸菌米培地生成物「米ケフィラン」の3点を出展しました。
また、企業プレゼンテーションでは、当社の研究開発部長加藤久宣が、「バイオブラン（米ぬかアラビノキシラン）の樹状細胞分化促進作用」と題して、腫瘍細胞に対しての免疫活性に関する最新の研究成果を発表しました。
5月20日（水）～22日（金）、東京ビッグサイトで開催された第14回国際食品素材／添加物・会議（ifia JAPAN 2009）、第７回ヘルスフードエキスポ（HFE JAPAN 2009）（主催：食品化学新聞社、後援：農林水産省、厚生労働省、各国大使館など）にも、当社は同様に3商品を出展しました。HFE JAPAN セッション会場では、腸内細菌の世界的権威である光岡知足氏（東京大学名誉教授）が「米ケフィランの有用性と腸内細菌叢」と題して講演。
当社が開発・製造する素材を取り上げて、その有用性を述べられました。
健康食品については、従来に増して安全性が求められている現在、当社の商品はいずれも米や納豆といった日本人の古くからの食習慣に結びついた素材を原料としていることや、厳しい品質管理の下で生産されることから、どちらの会場でもいままで以上の注目を集めました。当社は今後も、展示会やセミナー、講演会などを通して商品の正しい情報を、責任と自信を持って広く発信していきたいと考えております。
■統合医療新着情報【42】前立腺がん検診は有益
血液検査による前立腺がん検診の有効性について、しばらく賛否が分かれていましたが（e-健康かわら版vol.50参照）、「有効である」という方向で決着がつきそうです。この検査は「PSA（前立腺特異抗原）」という物質を測るものです。血液中のPSAは前立腺がんや前立腺肥大症などで増加します。
一般の健康診断で実施すれば、増加した場合「この人は前立腺に異常があるかも」という目星がつき、次の精密検査につなげられるというわけで、すでに広く行われています。
ところが、こうしたやり方は「勧められない」という見解を、厚生労働省の研究班が2007年に発表。逆に日本泌尿器科学会は検診を推奨するガイドラインを出版するなど、混乱が始まりました。
そんな中で今年3月、欧州で行われた16万人規模の研究で、PSA検診を4年ごとに受けた人は、受けなかった人に比べて前立腺がんによる死亡率が20％減少することがわかりました。検診を受けているとがんを早めに見つけられるので、治療がしやすいわけです。
この研究は「効果あり」の大きな裏づけとなり、日本泌尿器科学会は4月、「PSA検診はより強く推奨される」ことを表明しています。
今後は、PSA検診で「引っかかった」人に対して、いかに適切に精密検査、治療が行われるかどうかに関心が向けられるでしょう。

8/2にバイオブラン研究会国際大会が開催され、国内外諸先生方のお話を伺い、非常に勉強になりました。改めてバイオブランについて学ぶことができ、これまで知らなかったようなことも多々ありました。

◎ In May 2009, our company showcased our flagship products at two consecutive exhibitions held in Tokyo.
On May 19 (Tue) and 20 (Wed), the Healthy Food Ingredients, Ingredients, and OEM Exhibition 2009 (hosted by Health Business Magazine) was held at the Tokyo International Forum, with participation from over 60 material manufacturers and contract manufacturing companies. Materials, raw materials, and technologies were exhibited and promoted. This fiscal year, our company also exhibited three products: rice bran arabinoxylan 'Bio Bran,' nattoprotease 'NKCP,' and lactic acid bacteria rice medium product 'Rice Kefiran.'
In the corporate presentation, our R&D Director Hisanobu Kato presented the latest research findings on immune activity against tumor cells, titled "Promotion of Dendritic Cell Differentiation by Biobran (rice bran arabinoxylan)."
On May 20 (Wed) ~ 22 (Fri), our company also exhibited three products at the 14th International Conference on Food Ingredients/Additives (ifia JAPAN 2009) and the 7th Health Food Expo (HFE JAPAN 2009) held at Tokyo Big Sight (hosted by Shokho Kagaku Shimbunsha, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, embassies from various countries, etc.). At the HFE JAPAN session venue, Mr. Chisoshi Mitsuoka, a global authority on gut bacteria (Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo), gave a lecture titled "The Usefulness of Rice Kefiran and the Gut Microbiota."
They highlighted the materials we develop and manufacture, and explained their usefulness.
Regarding health foods, safety is now increasingly demanded, and all our products are made from ingredients rooted in traditional Japanese eating habits, such as rice and natto, and are produced under strict quality control, attracting more attention than ever at both venues. Going forward, we aim to widely and responsibly disseminate accurate information about our products through exhibitions, seminars, lectures, and more.
■ Latest Information on Integrated Medicine [42] Prostate Cancer Screening Is Beneficial
There has been some debate for the effectiveness of prostate cancer screening using blood tests (see e-Health Kawara Edition vol.50), but it seems the conclusion will be that it is "effective." This test measures a substance called "PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen)." PSA in the blood increases in conditions such as prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
If it is done during a general health checkup, if the number increases, it can indicate that "this person might have a prostate abnormality," which can lead to the next detailed examination, and this practice is already widely practiced.
However, in 2007, a research team from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare published the view that such a method is "not recommended." Conversely, the Japanese Urological Association published guidelines recommending screening, which sparked confusion.
In this context, a study conducted in Europe this March involving 160,000 people found that those who underwent PSA screening every four years had a 20% lower mortality rate from prostate cancer compared to those who did not. Having screenings allows for earlier detection of cancer, making treatment easier.
This study provides strong evidence of its "effectiveness," and in April, the Japanese Urological Society stated that "PSA screening is strongly recommended."
Going forward, attention will focus on how to properly conduct detailed examinations and treatments for those who "get hooked" during PSA screening.
■Editor's Note
On August 2nd, the International Conference of the Bio Bran Research Association was held, and I learned a lot from hearing from professors both in Japan and abroad. I was able to learn about Bio Bran once again, and there were many things I hadn't known before.
