こんにちは、メールマガジン担当の石原です。
ここ数週間で大和薬品の本社がある東京・三軒茶屋ではグッと気温が下がってきました。もうすぐ紅葉のシーズンを迎えて、ドライブなどを計画されている方も多いのではないでしょうか。色とりどりの木々の中でも、イチョウは黄色く色づき私達の目を楽しませてくれますが、その実は秋の味覚のひとつでもあります。いつも私たちが食べているギンナンはイチョウの実の胚乳にあたり、古来より漢方の世界でも体に良い成分を含んでいるとされています。詳しくは編集後記でご紹介いたしますので、今月も最後までよろしくお願いします。

◎インドネシアの癌学会にて「バイオブラン」の発表がありました。
インドネシアで外科医中心の癌学会が開催されました（10月30～11月1日）。
開催期間中の参加者は250名を超え、癌に関する様々な報告がなされました。
「バイオブラン」については先の「バイオブランワークショップ2009」に参加いただいた、Dr. Dimyatiに「Immunomodulation and its benefits for cancer patients focusing BIOBRAN」と題し発表いただきました。直訳すると「バイオブランにおける免疫調整と癌患者に対する機能性」となり、同製品の活発な意見交換の場となりました。
また、別会場ではインドネシアの製薬会社各社がブースを出しており、PT Ferron（インドネシアの大手製薬会社）も出展しました。バイオブラン製品の代理店である同社は積極的に商品をプロモーションしドクターの関心を引いていました。
■統合医療新着情報【45】トクホと食品機能
食用油の問題に端を発し、福島瑞穂・消費者担当相が特定保健用食品（トクホ）制度を見直す方針だと一部で報道されました（朝日新聞10月23日付）。審査や表示のあり方などに関して検討会を設置して作業に取りかかるとされます。トクホとは、健康への有用性が厚生労働省の審査で確認され、表示を許可された機能性食品のこと。現在、血圧やコレステロールが高めの人、血糖値が気になり始めた人に適した製品や、おなかの調子を整える食品などが発売されています。ただ、図らずも今回の見直し項目に含まれるように、トクホの制度には限界もあります。その1つが、表示されるカテゴリーが限られていることで、免疫に関する機能などには対応していません。ですから、トクホになっていないからといって、食品機能が評価されていないわけではありません。
機能性食品を評価する場合、その成分にどれだけデータが積み上げられているかがポイントになります。国内外の学術論文に試験結果が掲載されるような素材であれば、信頼性は高いといえます。

今月のメールマガジンはいかがでしたか？さて、今回のギンナンですが、咳・喘息・夜尿症によいとされています。かのダーウィンはイチョウを「生きた化石」と称しましたが、その通りイチョウは古代「ベルム記」に起源をもつ裸子植物です。受精の仕方が非常に原始的で、樹齢1000年を超えても沢山実をつけることから、中国では結婚式にギンナンを食べさせる習慣があったようです。ギンナンはカリウム、糖質、ビタミンなどが多く、カルシウムや鉄なども含みます。微量の青酸配糖体が咳や痰に効果があるとされ、煎ったり、煮たりして食べるのが一般的です。また、ギンナンといえば独特の香りが鼻をつきますが、種子の部分を覆っている果肉の部分が熟して出るにおいで、剥いていく際に非常にカブレやすくゴム手袋などの使用が必要ですのでご注意ください。旬の味覚を味わいながら、健康維持に役立てましょう。

■ Latest Information on Integrated Medicine [45] Tokuho and Food Functions
Triggered by the issue with edible oil, some reports have led to reports (Asahi Shimbun, October 23) that Mizuho Fukushima, Minister for Consumer Affairs, plans to review the Specified Health Foods (Tokuho) system. A review committee has been established to begin work on the review and labeling approach. Tokuho refers to functional foods whose health benefits have been confirmed by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and approved for labeling. Currently, products suitable for people with high blood pressure or cholesterol, or those starting to worry about blood sugar, as well as foods that help regulate stomach health, are being released. However, as is unintentionally included in this review, there are also limitations to the Tokuho system. One of these is that the categories that can be displayed are limited, so it does not support immune functions and similar functions. Therefore, just because it is not Tokuho does not mean that the food's functions are not being evaluated.
When evaluating functional foods, the key point is how much data is accumulated on the ingredients. If the material has test results published in academic papers both domestically and internationally, it can be considered highly reliable.
