关于我们的旗舰产品BioBran（UCLA/Drew医学院教授M. Gornam博士），其中一位开发者，在6月于圣地亚哥举行的美国临床免疫学会联合会（FOCiS2007）上展示了最新的研究成果。
FOCiS是美国及全球临床免疫学会的合作项目，秉持“通过免疫学改善人类健康”的理念。通过工作坊和海报展示，该组织深入探讨与免疫相关的各种主题。
Gornum博士去年继续参加会议，题为《米糠补充剂调节携带Erich癌小鼠细胞因子的生成，增强凋亡以抑制肿瘤生长》。概述如下。
我们研究了Biobran的抗肿瘤活性及体内作用机制。Erich腹水癌（EAC）细胞通过肌肉注射注射注入小鼠右大腿，第8天，对患实态Erich癌（SEC）的小鼠每周三次腹腔注射Biobran（40 mg/kg体重体重），直至第35天。
通过该研究，研究了肿瘤生长（体积和重量）、血浆细胞因子生成以及Biobran的凋亡效应，结果Biobran施用后肿瘤体积和肿瘤重量相比对照组有显著延迟。因此，血浆细胞因子的产生被认为参与了Biobran发挥抗肿瘤作用的机制;与对照组携带的SEC小鼠相比，IFNγ和TNFα水平升高，而免疫抑制性细胞因子IL-10水平下降。
此外，流式细胞术和组织病理学检查显示，BioBuran使SEC细胞凋亡的比例增加了1.8倍，但未观察到Biobran使用后出现有害副作用;所有小鼠均表现出正常的摄食/饮水和生命活动模式，体重显著增加。这些数据被认为对实体肿瘤治疗具有临床意义。
戈纳姆博士是NK细胞与癌症、应激、衰老等领域的世界顶尖研究权威，已发表200多篇论文。
2002年，他对免疫学的贡献获得认可，并被英国国际传记中心评为“2002年度国际科学家”之一。

日本食品功能研究协会（JAFRA），我公司是其正式会员，于7月29日（东京丸比鲁大厅）举办了“健康论坛2007”。
该研究团队持续开展诸如通过海外研讨会、网站和出版物传播食品成分和健康信息等活动，并于去年九月被内阁办公室正式认可为非营利组织。作为非营利组织认证以来的首个重大活动，本次论坛汇聚了所有努力，主题为“通过食品增强免疫与抗衰老”。免疫学、肠道细菌学、前病期和抗衰老研究领域的顶尖专家以通俗易懂的方式解释了健康促进的秘诀，包括通过饮食（食品和医学共同共享）进行身体改造、疾病预防、肠道免疫的重要性，以及利用生物响应物质（BRMs）如米糠阿拉伯诺基兰衍生物的实例。
来自全国各地的近400名参与者，包括医疗和制药专业人士以及媒体成员，参加了此次活动，活动圆满结束。

◎ 在亚洲展览会上展出了BioBlanc、NKCP和美国Kefiran
本公司于6月27日至29日在香港会议展览中心举办的“天然产品博览会亚洲2007”（主办：New Hope Natural Media公司）上，展出了BioBran、NKCP及米Kefiran。
此次展会是亚洲地区规模最大的健康食品展会之一，约有来自世界各地的350家公司参展，不仅包括中国大陆及亚洲各地，还有来自大洋洲、欧洲、北美等地的约一万名观众参观。
本次展会，公司展示了在全球40个国家有销售记录的植物多糖加工食品“BioBran”，以及备受关注、与传统纳豆激酶不同的纯化纳豆菌培养物“NKCP”，还有以米为培养基，用来自Kefir的乳酸菌发酵生成的产品“米Kefiran”。
针对各原料，我们都提供了针对目标客户的具体多种应用方案，吸引了各国访客的关注。
尤其是“米Kefiran”，作为新素材，由于具有预防代谢综合症的潜力及其他多种功能性特点，受到了参展者的广泛提问，显现出高度关注。
在东盟地区，保健品市场持续迅速增长，关注“高品质”“安全性”的本公司产品预计未来仍将有更多的需求。
■ 综合医疗最新信息
【18】通过营养管理提升治疗效果
近年来，设有由医疗专业人员组成的团队对患者进行营养管理——即“营养支持团队”（NST）的医院正逐渐在全国增加。日本静脉肠内营养学会认证的NST运作医院，2001年只有12家，而到2005年底几乎达到700家。
NST是指由医生、护士、药剂师、管理营养师、临床检验技师等多职业人员组成团队，为每个患者及不同疾病提供适宜的营养管理（营养支持）。
老年人、消化器癌症患者及骨科手术患者等，被认为营养不良的风险较高。如果营养状况不佳，术后发生并发症的频率较高，死亡率上升的数据也存在。
相反，如果进行营养管理，与未进行相比，可减少手术相关的重大并发症（贫血、褥疮、肺炎等），并促进免疫能力。
现如今，有医生甚至建议“接受手术时，应选择营养管理完善的医院”。营养管理据说从古埃及时期就存在，而“营养管理可提高治疗效果”的理念，似乎也开始在现代西医医生中萌芽。

上月初，我参加了一天限定的初学者芳香疗法课程。
课程在讲解了减轻压力作用及对女性特有不适症状的有效性之后，让我们实际尝试了多种精油样品的香气。
此外，还可以混合几种精油，享受专属于自己的芳香疗法，这次我制作了一个据说对“驱蚊”有效的组合样品（香茅+薰衣草）。
据说，这种组合涂抹在被蚊虫叮咬处还有淡化痕迹的效果。随着现代科学的发展，大部分精油成分可以化学合成，但仍有成分无法确定其化学结构，而这些成分存在于天然精油中时才能发挥功效，这也是一个非常有趣的话题。
芳香疗法可以方便日常健康保养，但使用上有规则，日本芳香环境协会等团体提供了易于理解的信息。
活动信息也很丰富，下次我也想趁心情转换再参加一次。

◎Ｍ．ゴーナム博士が、バイオブランについて最新の研究成果を発表
当社の主要製品「バイオブラン」について、開発者の一人Ｍ．ゴーナム博士（UCLA/Drew医科大学教授）が、6月にサンディエゴで開催された米国臨床免疫学会連盟（FOCiS2007）で最新の研究成果を発表しました。
FOCiSは、米国および世界各国の免疫関連の臨床系学会が統合されたもので、「免疫学を通じた人類の健康の向上」を理念とし、ワークショップとポスターセッションで，免疫に関する様々なテーマを掘り下げます。
ゴーナム博士は昨年に引き続き同学会に参加、「米ぬかサプリメントはエーリッヒ担癌マウスのサイトカイン産生を調節し、アポトーシスを増強することで腫瘍の増殖を抑制する」と題して発表しました。概要は以下のとおり。
in vivoでのバイオブランの抗腫瘍活性および作用機序を検討した。マウスの右大腿部にエーリッヒ腹水癌（EAC）細胞を筋肉内接種し、8日目に固形エーリッヒ癌腫（SEC）を生じたマウスに対し、バイオブラン（40 mg/kg体重）を週3回の頻度で35日目まで腹腔内投与した。
これにより腫瘍増殖（体積および重量）、血漿サイトカイン産生、バイオブランのアポトーシス効果を検討したところ、バイオブランの投与により、腫瘍体積・腫瘍重量において、対照マウスに比べ高度に有意な増殖の遅延が認められた。このようにバイオブランが抗腫瘍効果を発揮する機序には、血漿サイトカイン産生が関与するものと考えられ、対照の担SECマウスと比較するとIFNγ値およびTNFα値は上昇し、免疫抑制サイトカインIL-10の値は低下していた。
さらに、フローサイトメトリーおよび病理組織学的検査から、バイオブランはアポトーシスを起こしたSEC細胞の割合を1.8倍増加させたが、バイオブランの投与に起因する有害な副作用は観察されず、全マウスが正常な摂餌／摂水および生命活動パターンを示し、体重も有意に増加した。これらのデータは固形がんの治療にとって臨床的な意義を有すると考えられる。
ゴーナム博士は、ＮＫ細胞とガン、ストレス、老化等の分野における研究では世界の第一人者で、発表した論文は200以上にもなります。
また2002年には免疫学における貢献が認められ、イギリスのInternational Biographical Centreから「INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIST OF THE YEAR 2002」の一人に選ばれました。
「バイオブラン」は日本をはじめアメリカ、ヨーロッパ各国など９カ国で製法特許を取得。幅広いエビデンスを蓄積し、製造工程においてもISO・HACCP認証を取得していることから、日本発の確かな機能性食品としての地位を確立、世界販売実績も40カ国に達しています。
◎日本食品機能研究会（JAFRA）が「健康フォーラム2007」を開催
当社が正会員として加盟している日本食品機能研究会（JAFRA）が7月29日に「健康フォーラム2007」を開催しました（東京・丸ビルホール）。
同研究会は海外ワークショップやホームページ、出版によって食品素材や健康関連の情報発信などの活動を続け、昨年9月に内閣府からNPO法人として認可されました。当フォーラムはNPO認証後最初のビックイベントということで総力を結集、「食による免疫力向上とアンチエイジング」をテーマに掲げ、免疫学、腸内細菌学、未病、抗老化研究の第一人者の先生方が身近な話題を交えながら、食による体のリフォーム（食医同源）、未病のがん対策、腸管免疫の重要性、米ぬかアラビノキシラン誘導体をはじめとする生体応答物質(BRM)の活用例など健康づくりの秘訣についてわかりやすく解説しました。
会場には全国から医療・薬品関係者、報道関係者など400名近い参加者があり、盛況のもと終了しました。

◎アジア展示会にバイオブラン、NKCP、米ケフィランを出展
当社は6月27日～29日に香港・コンベンション＆エキジビジョンセンターで開催された 「ナチュラル・プロダクツ・エキスポ・アジア2007」（主催：ニューホープ・ナチュラル・メディア社）に、バイオブラン、NKCP、米ケフィランを出展しました。
当展示会はアジア地域の健康食品展示会中でも最大規模であり、世界各国から約350社が出展、中国本土、アジア各地だけでなく、オセアニア、ヨーロッパ、北アメリカなど全世界から約1万人の来場者がありました。
今回当社は世界40カ国に販売実績を持つ植物性多糖加工食品「バイオブラン」や、従来のナットウキナーゼとの違いが注目されている精製ナットウ菌培養物「NKCP」、それに、米を培地としてケフィア由来の乳酸菌で発酵させた生成物「米ケフィラン」を出展。
各原料ともターゲットに合わせた具体的なさまざまな処方案を提示、各国からの訪問者の関心を集めました。
とくに「米ケフィラン」については、新素材であり、メタボリックシンドローム予防への可能性をはじめ、多様な機能性を有しているという特徴から、参加者の質問が相次ぎ、関心の高さがうかがえました。
アセアン地域では、サプリメント市場が急成長を続けており、「高品質」「安全性」に配慮した当社製品は今後も引き合いの増加が期待されます。
■統合医療新着情報
【18】栄養管理で治療効果がアップ
患者の栄養管理を医療専門職がチームで支援する「ニュートリション・サポート・チーム」（NST）を置く病院がこの数年，全国的に増えてきました。日本静脈経腸栄養学会認定のNST稼動病院は，2001年には12軒でしたが，05年末では700軒に迫るほどです。
NSTは，患者や疾患ごとに適切な栄養管理（栄養サポート）を，医師，看護師，薬剤師，管理栄養士，臨床検査技師など多職種で実践するチームのことです。
高齢者や消化器がん、整形外科手術などの患者は低栄養になっている危険性が高いとされます。栄養状態が悪いと、術後に合併症を起こす頻度が高く，死亡率の上昇を示すデータもあります。
その反対に，栄養管理が行われた場合は、していない場合に比べて，手術に伴う重大な合併症（貧血，床ずれ，肺炎など）が減少したり，免疫能が促進されたりします。
今では「手術を受けるなら、栄養管理のしっかりした病院を選ぶべき」 とアドバイスする医師もいるほど。栄養管理は古代エジプトからあったと言われていますが，「栄養管理が治療効果を高める」という考えが現代西洋医学の医師にも芽生えてきたようです。

■編集後記
先月初めに1日限定のアロマテラピー初心者講座を受講しました。
ストレス軽減作用や女性特有の不定愁訴に関する有用性などの解説の後、実際に多くの精油サンプルの香りを試すことができました。
また数種類の精油をブレンドして自分だけのアロマテラピーを楽しむこともでき、今回は”蚊よけ”に良いといわれる組み合わせでサンプルを作成しました（シトロネラ+ラベンダー）。
この組み合わせは刺された箇所に塗ると跡を薄くする効果もあるそうです。現代科学の発達により、精油成分の多くが化学合成できるようになりましたが、いまだに化学構造を特定できない成分も存在しており、天然の精油中にそれらが存在していることで効果を発揮するという興味深いお話もありました。
毎日の健康づくりに手軽に活用できそうなアロマテラピーですが、使用上のルールがあり、日本アロマ環境協会などの団体がわかりやすく情報提供しています。
イベント情報も充実しているのでまた気分転換に参加してみたいと思います。

◎ Dr. M. Gornam presents the latest research findings on Bioblanc
Regarding our flagship product, BioBran (Dr. M. Gornam, professor at UCLA/Drew Medical School), one of the developers, presented the latest research findings at the Federation of American Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCiS2007) held in San Diego in June.
FOCiS is a collaboration of clinical immunology societies from the United States and around the world, with the philosophy of "improving human health through immunology." Through workshops and poster sessions, it delves into various themes related to immunity.
Dr. Gornum continued to participate in the conference last year and presented under the title, "Rice Bran Supplement Regulates Cytokine Production in Erich Carcinoma-bearing Mice and Enhances Apoptosis to Suppress Tumor Growth." The overview is as follows.
We investigated the antitumor activity and mechanism of action of Biobran in vivo. Erich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cells were inoculated intramuscularly into the right thigh of mice, and on day 8, mice that developed solid Erich carcinoma (SEC) were given Biobran (40 mg/kg body weight) intraperitoneally three times a week until day 35.
Through this, tumor growth (volume and weight), plasma cytokine production, and the apoptosis effects of Biobran were examined, and administration of Biobran showed a highly significant delay in tumor volume and tumor weight compared to control mice. Thus, plasma cytokine production is thought to be involved in the mechanism by which Biobran exerts its antitumor effects; compared to control SEC-bearing mice, IFNγ and TNFα levels were elevated, while immunosuppressive cytokine IL-10 levels decreased.
Furthermore, flow cytometry and histopathological examination showed that BioBuran increased the proportion of SEC cells experiencing apoptosis by 1.8-fold, but no harmful side effects were observed from Biobran administration; all mice exhibited normal feeding/water intake and vital activity patterns, and body weight increased significantly. These data are considered clinically significant for the treatment of solid tumors.
Dr. Gornum is a world-leading authority in research on NK cells and cancer, stress, aging, and more, having published over 200 papers.
In 2002, HIS contributions to immunology were recognized, and he was selected as one of THE 'INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIST OF THE YEAR 2002' by THE UK's International Biographical Centre.
"Bio Blanc" has obtained manufacturing patent patents in nine countries, including Japan, the United States, and various European nations. With extensive evidence accumulated and ISO and HACCP certifications in its manufacturing process, it has established itself as a reliable functional food originating from Japan, with global sales reaching 40 countries.
◎ The Japan Society for Food Function Research (JAFRA) held the "Health Forum 2007"
The Japan Food Function Research Association (JAFRA), to which our company is a full member, held the "Health Forum 2007" on July 29 (Marubiru Hall, Tokyo).
The research group has continued activities such as disseminating information on food ingredients and health through overseas workshops, websites, and publications, and was officially recognized as an NPO by the Cabinet Office last September. As the first major event since NPO certification, this forum brought together all efforts under the theme of "Immune Enhancement and Anti-Aging through Food." Leading experts in immunology, gut bacteriology, pre-disease, and anti-aging research explained the secrets to health promotion in an easy-to-understand way, including body reform through diet (shared by food and medicine), cancer prevention before illness, the importance of gut immunity, and examples of utilizing bioresponsive substances (BRMs) such as rice bran arabinoxylane derivatives.
Nearly 400 participants from across the country, including medical and pharmaceutical professionals and members of the press, attended the venue, and the event concluded successfully.

◎ Exhibited BioBlanc, NKCP, and U.S. Kefiran at the Asia Exhibition
Our company exhibited BioBran, NKCP, and Rice Kefiran at the "Natural Products Expo Asia 2007" (hosted by New Hope Natural Media) held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center from June 27 to 29.
This exhibition is the largest health food trade show in the Asia region, with approximately 350 companies exhibiting and about 10,000 visitors from around the world, including not only mainland China and various parts of Asia but also Oceania, Europe, and North America.

[18] Improved therapeutic effects through nutritional management
Hospitals with "Nutrition Support Teams" (NSTs), where medical professionals support patients' nutritional management as a team, have increased nationwide in recent years. Hospitals recognized by the Japan Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (JSPEN) had 12 in 2001, reaching nearly 700 by the end of 2005.
NSTs are teams that implement appropriate nutritional management (nutrition support) for each patient and disease, comprising physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, clinical laboratory technicians, and other professionals.
Elderly patients, those with gastrointestinal cancer, or those undergoing orthopedic surgery are considered at high risk of malnutrition. Poor nutritional status is associated with a higher frequency of postoperative complications and an increase in mortality.
Conversely, when nutritional management is conducted, serious complications related to surgery (such as anemia, bedsores, pneumonia) decrease compared to cases without management, and immune function may be promoted.
Nowadays, some doctors even advise, "If you are undergoing surgery, choose a hospital with thorough nutritional management." While nutritional management is said to have existed since ancient Egypt, the idea that "nutritional management enhances treatment efficacy" has begun to take root among modern Western medical doctors.

At the beginning of last month, I attended a one-day beginner aromatherapy course.
After explanations of the stress-relieving effects and usefulness for women’s specific complaints, I was able to try the scents of many essential oil samples.
I was also able to enjoy blending several essential oils for my own aromatherapy, and this time made a sample with a combination said to be good for mosquito repellent (citronella + lavender).
This combination is also said to help reduce marks when applied to bitten areas. With modern science, many essential oil components can now be synthesized chemically, but there are still some components whose chemical structures cannot be identified. It was fascinating to hear that the presence of these components in natural essential oils contributes to their effectiveness.
Aromatherapy seems easy to use for daily health maintenance, but there are usage rules, and organizations such as the Japan Aroma Environment Association provide clear information.
Events are also well-organized, so I would like to participate again for a change of pace.
