大和健康开发（DHD USA），大和制药株式会社（东京世田谷区，社长二宫康夫）在美国的子公司，在12月7日至10日于拉斯维加斯举行的第十四届国际抗衰老医学与再生生物医学大会（由美国抗衰老医学学会主办）上展出了其面向医师的产品“BRM4”，该大会由美国抗衰老医学学会主办，历时四天。
美国抗衰老医学学会（A4M）是一个国际非营利组织，致力于推动抗衰老医学的研究并提供信息，会员来自全球75个国家。本次会议举办了80多场讲座，700多家相关公司参展，6000多名参与者。

最近，当你听到“癌症难民”这个词时，脑海中浮现出什么样的形象？
该词有多种含义，但这里我们先以“对医生治疗解释不满意或无法选择可接受治疗方案的癌症患者”（根据日本健康政策机构）来继续讨论。该组织分析了1186名癌症患者的调查，其中53%是癌症难民。据估计，日本的癌症难民总数为68万人。

■新しい食品素材の探求・開発を

新年あけましておめでとうございます。
昨年は、バイオブランの学術書を出版することができ、また、念願でありました乳酸菌米培地生成物「米ケフィラン」を上市することができました。
これもひとえに 皆様方のご支援ご協力の賜物と、心より感謝申し上げる次第でございます。「米ケフィラン」は世界的な長寿地域で愛飲されている発酵乳ケフィアの中の乳酸菌（Lactobacillus kefiranofaciens）とお米を使った植物性の培地から生まれた乳酸菌発酵物です。この米ケフィランには、いろいろな効果が期待されております。
今年は、この「米ケフィラン」の有用性について更なる研究を進めたいと考えております。また、これまでのバイオブラン、NKCP、米ケフィランに続く新しい食品素材の探索も進めて行きたいと思っておりますので、今年もどうか宜しくお願い申し上げます。

大和薬品（株）（東京都世田谷区：二宮泰夫社長）のアメリカ現地法人Daiwa Health Development(DHD USA)社は、12 月7 日～10日の4日間、ラスベガスで開催されたアンチエイジング医学と再生医療技術に関する国際会議(14th Annual International Congress on Anti-Aging Medicineand Regenerative Biomedical Technologies、主催：米国アンチエイジング医学会)に米ぬかアラビノキシラン誘導体含有（BioBran）の医家向け製品”BRM４”を出展しました。
米国アンチエイジング医学会（A4M）はアンチエイジング医学の研究促進、情報提供などを行う国際的な非営利団体で世界75カ国が加盟しています。今回の学会も80以上の講義が行われ700社以上の関連企業が出展、6,000人を超す参加者がありました。
DHD USA社では、「BRM4」出展の他、バイオメディカルサイエンス専門の医学博士による、米ぬかアラビノキシラン誘導体（BioBran）の免疫賦活作用に関するポスタープレゼンテーションも行い、その後別会場で同社が開催したビュッフェ・セミナーにも多くの臨床医、医療関係者が参加し、臨床時に直面するさまざまな問題点や代替医療の有効性などを中心に活発な意見交換が行われました。同社では今後も医療関係者とのネットワークづくりを積極的に推進していきたい、としています。

【12】「がん難民」とセカンドオピニオン
最近耳にする「がん難民」という言葉、皆さんはどのようなイメージがありますか。
いろいろな意味で使われますが、ここでは「医師による治療説明に不満足だったか、納得できる治療方針を選択できなかったがん患者」（日本医療政策機構による説明）として話を進めましょう。がん患者ら1,186人の調査を同機構が分析すると、その中でがん難民は53％。日本全体では68万人と推計されるといいます。
主治医の方針に疑問があるなら「セカンドオピニオン（主治医以外の医師の意見）」を求める方法もあります。今（これから）の治療や検査が自分に合っているか、第三者の意見を聞こうというわけです。ただし、その病気の専門医に聞く方が望ましいので、インターネットなどでチェックしてみましょう。
ここで気になるのは「セカンドオピニオンを受けたいと言ったら、主治医の機嫌を損ねるのではないか」ということではないでしょうか。状況によっては、主治医には言わずに受診するのもやむを得ない選択と言えます。
さて前出の調査では、治療方針を「理解できるまで主治医に何度も説明を求めた」と答えた人は、がん難民では24％と、その他のがん患者（65％）に比べかなり少数。このあたりが、セカンドオピニオンが単なる「ドクターショッピング」になるかどうかの分かれ目のようです。

Last year, we were able to publish an academic book on Biobran and also launched the long-awaited lactic acid bacteria rice medium product "Rice Kefiran."
This is entirely thanks to your support and cooperation, and we sincerely appreciate it. "Rice Kefiran" is a lactic acid bacteria fermentation product made from lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus kefiranofaciens), a fermented milk beverage popular in long-lived regions worldwide, and a plant-based medium made from rice. This rice kefiran is expected to have various benefits.
This year, we plan to further research the usefulness of this "rice kefiran." Additionally, following bio-bran, NKCP, and rice kefiran, we also intend to explore new food ingredients, so we appreciate your continued support this year as well.

Daiwa Health Development (DHD USA), the U.S. local subsidiary of Daiwa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Setagaya-ku, Tokyo; President Yasuo Ninomiya), exhibited its physician-oriented product "BRM4," containing rice bran arabinoxylane derivative (BioBran), at the 14th Annual International Congress on Anti-Aging Medicine and Regenerative Biomedical Technologies (hosted by the American Society for Anti-Aging Medicine) held in Las Vegas over four days, December 7~10.
The American Society for Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) is an international non-profit organization that promotes research and provides information on anti-aging medicine, with members from 75 countries worldwide. This conference featured over 80 lectures, more than 700 related companies exhibited, and more than 6,000 participants.
In addition to exhibiting at "BRM4," DHD USA also gave a poster presentation by a medical doctor specializing in biomedical sciences on the immune-stimulating effects of rice bran arabinoxylane derivative (BioBran). Afterwards, many clinicians and healthcare professionals attended a buffet seminar held by the company at a separate venue, where active exchanges focused on various clinical issues and the effectiveness of alternative medicine took place. The company intends to continue actively promoting networking with healthcare professionals.

[12] "Cancer Refugees" and Second Opinions
Recently, when you hear the term 'cancer refugees,' what kind of image comes to mind?
It is used in various senses, but here let's proceed with the discussion as "cancer patients who were dissatisfied with their doctor's treatment explanation or could not choose a treatment plan they could accept" (according to the Japan Health Policy Organization). When the organization analyzed a survey of 1,186 cancer patients, 53% of them were cancer refugees. It is estimated that the total number in Japan is 680,000.
If you have doubts about your primary doctor's policy, you can also seek a 'second opinion' (the opinion of a doctor other than your primary doctor). This means you want to hear the opinion of a third party to see if your current (or soon) treatment or tests suit you. However, it's better to ask a specialist for the specific illness, so be sure to check online or elsewhere.
What might be a concern here is whether saying you want a second opinion might upset your primary doctor. Depending on the situation, visiting without telling your doctor may be an unavoidable choice.
In the aforementioned survey, only 24% of cancer refugees answered that they had repeatedly asked their primary physician to explain their treatment plan until they could understand it, which is quite small compared to other cancer patients (65%). This seems to be the dividing line between whether a second opinion becomes just 'doctor shopping.'
