◎ Exhibited at the 'Food Development Exhibition 2006'. New food ingredient 'rice kephilan' is attracting attention

The "Food Development Exhibition 2006" (hosted by CMP Japan, supported by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, etc.) was held at Tokyo Big Sight from October 4~6, where our company exhibited its main products, "Bio Bran and NKCP," as well as the previously successful and highly anticipated "Rice Kefilan." On the 4th, we also gave a presentation titled "Rice Kefilan—The Legendary Nutrient Source Born from LK Lactic Acid Bacteria and Rice."

This exhibition is one of the world's leading large-scale events, aimed at experts and related companies, aiming to improve food quality, safety, and functionality. During the event, many participants gathered not only from Japan but also from various Asian countries.

With over 500 exhibitors and adverse weather, approximately 15,000 visitors attended every day.

Our exhibition booth was redesigned again this time. As before, the popular "Bio Bran Brand" and "NKCP" products with abundant evidence continued to attract visitors. Notably, the new food ingredient "rice kefilan," developed in joint research with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, combined with its groundbreaking feature as a lactic acid bacteria product derived from rice, attracted even more attention than initially expected, leading to a flood of questions and a shortage of materials on the first day.

Regarding "rice kefilan," inquiries have been received from domestic and overseas food manufacturers, but our company is also advancing the development of original products.

◎ Presentation on the Anticoagulant and Filial Lytic Effects of "NKCP" at Rheology Forum

54th Rheology Symposium

(Hosted by the Japanese Rheology Society and the Japanese Society of Bio-Rheology) was held over three days from October 4~6 at Kyushu University Chikushi Campus in Fukuoka City, where research presentations on "NKCP" were held.

The presentation was titled "Anticoagulant and Fibrinolytic Effects of Health Foods Derived from Natto Bacteria," led by a research group led by Associate Professor Masahito Ichisugi (Department of Forensic Medicine, Dokkyo Medical University).

Associate Professor Ichisugi examined the effects of natto-derived health foods such as "NKCP," which mainly contains batyropeptidase F, and similar products mainly composed of conventional nattokinase on human blood coagulation and fibrinolytic systems via in-vitro (in vitro tubes). He presented that "NKCP" has stronger anticoagulant effects compared to the other product.

Associate Professor Ichisugi expressed hope for future possibilities, stating that scientifically verifying the effects of health foods and clarifying the evidence is important for consumers, and especially to further examine the extent of batyropeptidase F, which was particularly effective, in commercially available natto.

The increasing number of doctors focusing on the relationship between blood and health is also proof of the reliability of this product.

◎Seminar for Pharmacies and Drugstores Conducted

Our company held a seminar on October 22 at the Shinagawa East Inn Tower for pharmacies and drugstores that carry our products. At the beginning of the seminar, Dr. Kazushi Komatsu of Komatsu Pharmaceutical gave an easy-to-understand lecture titled "Development, Maturation, and Decline of the Immune System that Protects the Body," explaining the structure of the immune system and the importance of maintaining a healthy immune system through a favorable intestinal environment, using the keywords "probiotics," "prebiotics," and "biogenics," with abundant data.

In the latter half of the seminar, our R&D Director Hisanori Kato provided an explanation of the basic and clinical data of BioBran, and during the Q&A session after the lecture, there were active questions from participants.

Our company plans to continue holding similar health information seminars in the future to improve communication with pharmacies and drugstores.

■Latest Information on Integrative Medicine

【11】Enhanced Cancer Information Sites

This fall, the "Cancer Control Information Center" and the "Cancer Support Information Center" were successively launched, enriching information provision for cancer patients and their families. The "Cancer Control Information Center" was established in October at the National Cancer Center, and it collects and provides the latest information on cancer care.

On the website "Cancer Information Service," a wide range of information is aggregated in an easy-to-understand format, including explanations about various cancers, cancer statistics, glossaries, and Q&A sections.

It is also possible to search for hospitals based on location and specialist availability. On the other hand, the site for the "Cancer Support Information Center" began to be available in September (with all content expected to be completed by the end of January next year). This center operates the patient-focused cancer magazine "Cancer Support." Although many contents are still labeled "under preparation," standard treatments are introduced for 22 types of cancer, such as stomach and colorectal cancer, according to disease progression. Information on patient associations and personal experiences with the disease is also available. The center aims for patients to "know accurate medical information and use it for their treatment."

Though the bodies and activities of these two centers differ, both seem to be promising as a reliable source for those aiming to become "independent patients."
