概日リズムの乱れは認知症の初期兆候である可能性が新たな研究で示されました。概日リズムの相対振幅（最も活動的な時間帯と最も活動が少ない時間帯の差）が低く、リズムの断片化が進んでいることは、認知症リスクの上昇につながることが明らかになったといいます。米テキサス大学サウスウェスタン医療センター疫学・内科学分野のWendy Wang氏らによるこの研究の詳細は、「Neurology」に12月29日掲載されました。

Disruption of the Biological Clock Linked to Increased Risk of Dementia
New research suggests that disruptions in circadian rhythms may be an early sign of dementia. A lower relative amplitude of circadian rhythms (the difference between the most active and least active times) and increased fragmentation of the rhythm were found to contribute to a higher risk of dementia. Details of this study by Wendy Wang and colleagues in the Department of Epidemiology and Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center were published in "Neurology" on December 29.
