Does curiosity decline with age?

Certain types of curiosity appear to increase even in older age. Curiosity generally refers to the desire to learn, experience, and explore new information and environments. It is categorized into "trait curiosity," a relatively stable personality tendency of an individual, and "state curiosity," a temporary desire to gain information in response to a specific situation. A new study has revealed that while "trait curiosity" decreases with age, "state curiosity" strengthens. The details of this research by psychologist Dr. Alan Castel and colleagues at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) were published in "PLOS One" on May 7.

The next "Health Kawaraban" is scheduled to be distributed around July 22, 2025.
