Do doctors adhere to drug therapy guidelines less than the general public?
Doctors often criticize patients for not taking their medications as prescribed. However, in reality, adherence to drug therapy guidelines appears to be lower among doctors and their close relatives than among the general public. This finding comes from a large-scale study conducted by Amy Finkelstein and others in the Economics Department at MIT. The details were published in the December issue of "American Economic Review: Insights."
■ Health Tips: Learning from the Past for a Healthier Future
156) Gut Health and Well-Being ①
Many people use health foods and supplements to protect themselves from the COVID-19 virus, which is causing havoc worldwide. In particular, "gut health" is said to be a key to achieving "well-being," which extends healthy life expectancy. It has been found that maintaining gut flora not only has simple intestinal regulatory effects but also positively impacts overall immunity, muscle mass, and brain function. This time, we introduce Professor Yuji Naito from Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine's Graduate School of Biophysiological Nutrition, in a two-part lecture from the online seminar "Gut Health for Well-Being" hosted by the Asahi Shimbun Re-Life Project last November.
The next issue of "e-Health Kawaraban" is scheduled for distribution around March 20, 2023.
